Perforce Software adopts subscription model for dev tools

Perforce Software has added subscription pricing to its licensing options for as low as $360 per user.

The news allows Perforce to offer more flexible terms to customers. In a release, vice-president international for Perforce Software, Dave Robertson, said ”s ome companies want a powerful and scalable SCM system but are uncertain how many licenses they may need long term.

"Rather than pay full price up-front for a perpetual license, the subscription option makes it more cost effective for new and existing customers to add or remove licenses on an annual basis."

The Perforce SCM System, is a tool that versions and manages source code and digital assets. The vendor claims is it easy to administer, handles distributed development, and supports developers across a large number of platforms.

Perforce was founded in 1995, and operates in Australia. In addition to purchase and subscription options, Perforce offers free licenses to qualifying open source projects and educational institutions.
