EA's Mirrors Edge the centre of new lawsuit

EA has found itself at the centre of a lawsuit, with Edge Games filing for trademark infringement.

Edge Games is claiming ownership over the word ‘edge,’ and is claiming EA-published title, Mirror’s Edge, therefore infringes on its copyright. According to a report at gamesindustry.biz, this dispute is one that has been ongoing since 2007.

Edge Games has not released a game in its 16 years of operation, despite bringing the law to bear on a number of developers and publishers over the years. It also attempted to have independent developer Mobigames’ iPhone title Edge taken off the App store.

That action ultimately proved ineffective, and one would hope EA follows precedent and is likewise successful, so that the word ‘edge’ remains available for future game names.
