Disney develops digital content capabilities though iPhone developer acquisition

Disney is the latest company to delve into digital distribution developer acquisitions, picking up Tapulous.

The iPhone developer, responsible for the Tap Tap Revenge music games. This follows last month’s announcement that Disney’s venture division – Steamboat Ventures – was one of the investors in a round of financing for social games company Playdom.

Disney seems to be following the path of Square Enix, EA, and a number of the other large publishers in investing heavily in digital content. This tend amongst the larger player last month lead Square Enix president, Yoichi Wada, to issue a broad dismissal of peripherals, such as PlayStation Move and Kinect, and 3D technology, such as the Nintendo 3DS.
