Microsoft’s entertainment business has reported an operating loss increase of 22 per cent year-over-year to $US172 million for the quarter.
The Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD), which includes Xbox, PC and Zune. The yearly results were better – for the past 12-month period, EDD has enjoyed a 529 per cent net income increase to $US679 million.
The vendor had a reasonably steady year in regards to hardware units shipped – 10.3 Xboxes compared to 11.2 million a year before.
Much of the losses for the quarter can be attributed to the discontinuation of the Kin phone, and with Microsoft to roll out its new Windows 7 phone and the Kinect Xbox peripheral, there is plenty of opportunities for Microsoft to turn things around in the coming year.
