Some mixed financial results have come to light, with Sony bouncing back from a tough year, while Atari struggles, but sees a silver lining.
According to gamesindustry.biz, Sony is expecting a ¥10-30 billion operating profit for the first quarter of its 2010 financial year.
This profit comes from an operating loss of ¥25.7 billion for the same period last year. The growth can be attributed to success in the PlayStation, SLR camera and LCD television businesses.
Atari, meanwhile, has suffered a 65 per cent revenue drop for the first quarter of the year, down to €19.3 million from €54.5 million.
However, there is a silver lining for the publisher – its online revenue has grown substantially – up from just four per cent last year to 43.5 per cent, thanks in large part to the popularity of Star Trek Online and Champions Online.
Atari also has a stronger retail product lineup for the later half of the year, which should see its revenue recover substantially.
