Sony opens up brand licensing

In a bid to increase the value of its PlayStation brand, Sony has greatly opened up its licensing guidelines.

In a report by gamesindustry.biz, the Official Licensing Program for PlayStation now has 45 licensees and 123 items.

Following this announcement, manufacturers will be able to design products using the PlayStation 3, PSP, PSPgo, PS2 and PlayStation logos, as well as the four face buttons that are iconic to the PlayStation brand.

"With the help of third party companies, SCE will enrich the licensed product line-up and deliver various quality lifestyle products that will make the PlayStation brand more accessible than ever," said the company in a statement.
